Leland house fire
A late night fire destroys most of a Leelanau County home.

Posted: Friday, January 25, 2008 at 10:49 a.m. The fire broke out around 10:00pm Thursday night at a home on the corner of Reynolds and Lake Street in Leland. The Leland fire chief says the fire started in the front of the house, but later spread to the back. Everyone in the home got out safely. It took firefighters more than three hours to put out the fire. The fire chief says a wood burning stove is to blame.

Car drives into lake
An accident at the Narrows leaves a driver and passenger all wet, but uninjured.

Posted: Monday, January 21, 2008 at 4:57 p.m. Around 1:45 Monday afternoon, at the Narrows in Lake Leelanau, a car went off the road and into the water. At the scene, car tracks were visible where the car left the road started down the embankment. The car passed through a pine tree's branches and onto a dock. The car then went off the dock and into the water. Police say there were two people in the vehicle. Neither of them were injuried. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
